2The Double Layer Yarn Bedding You Should Know

What is the fabric of cotton double-layer yarn? The advantage of double layer yarn is that two layers are intertwined. This double layer yarn bedding has good breathability. It is widely used in maternal and child textile products, such as  baby pajamas, children’s bathrobes, baby diapers etc.

Double-layer yarn literally may be simply understood as: “It’s just more than one layer .” This understanding is good but not entirely correct. It is true that the two layers are woven at the same time, but the two layers are inseparable and tightly fit together. In the process of weaving, every two centimeters or one inch will have a yarn to link the two layers together, which becomes the node in the middle of the two layers. The important role of this node is to prevent the two layers from being shifted during use.So that the neat surface of the bedding can be effectively maintained.

3What Does Thread Count Mean In Bed Linen & Bed Sheets?

So many people are confused about Thread Counts when buying bed linen. What does it all mean? How do I choose the right bed linen? Here is a little clarification for you.

What is Thread Count and how to choose the right bed linen for you?

Thread count is the number of horizontal and vertical threads woven in one square inch of fabric. A thread count quality can vary from 80 up to and beyond 1000. Essentially the higher the Thread Count, the softer the fabric will feel. However, this is not the only factor you should be concerned about when buying bed linen.

Manufacturers and Wholesalers have done a great job marketing bed linen placing the emphasis on Thread Count, defining the quality of bed linen. The higher the Thread Count doesn’t necessarily mean the fabric is last longing and durable. Other important and quite critical factors when making fabric for bed sheets are the Yarn size, Ply, and Fibers.

Yarn Size refers to the weight, thickness, and coverage of the fabric. This helps to determine performance characteristics. Bed linen sheets generally range from a yarn size of 40 to 100. The higher the number, the finer the yarn allowing more of them of fit in a square inch.

Ply is described as how many individual yarns are used as one strand. For instance, Single ply fabric will use only a single yarn, however a 2 ply fabric will have 2 single yarns twisted together and then woven. Essentially, if one was to purchase 2 ply bed sheets they would want to make sure that the yarn is of a finer quality, that is, a yarn size of 100. If it were to be a denser quality, then the sheets will feel incredibly thick and heavy.

Fibers are the backbone of the fabric. In regards to bed linen, sheets can be made from a different variety of cottons, cotton blends, polyester and now even bamboo along with other kinds of fibers.

Trends have dramatically changed over the past 5 years. Consumers would purchase a Polyester/Cotton blend because of its no fuss ironing characteristics. Now, 100% Cotton is in demand. It is allergy friendly and allows the skin to breath. Cotton also has other great characteristics such as comfortability, softness, absorbs and releases perspiration quickly, good colour retention, good strength, easy to handle, flame retardant, pleasant matte luster and good elasticity.

High quality Cottons such as Egyptian and/or Pima Cotton are extremely expensive. You can expect to pay an excess of double to common cottons. True Egyptian Cotton, due to the perfect conditions of humidity and rich soil along the Nile river in Egypt, allows the cotton to grow into long fibers or staples. This means the yarn will have exceptional properties of softness, strength and durability.

So there you have it, there are many important factors when choosing bed linen and I hope this helps you when choosing the right bed linen for you. It certainly has open my eyes!

4Buying Guide: The Truth About Thread Count

Is there anything better than sliding into a bed laden with good quality sheets? At the end of the day, I can’t wait to stretch out under my fresh, soft covers and nestle my face into a good-covered cotton pillow. We spend a third of our lives in bed so quality sheets are key, but how do you get quality for your money? There’s no doubt that most consumers believe the higher the thread count, the better the quality, but this isn’t entirely true. With the help and expertise of Joanna Goodman, owner of Au Lit Fine Linens, we expose the truth about thread count and what it takes to find quality bed sheets.

WHAT IS THREAD COUNT, REALLY?

Simply put, thread count is the number of threads woven into one square inch of fabric. This number is based on the threads woven horizontally (“weft”) and vertically (“warp”). Extra threads can also be woven into the weft threads to increase the thread count. These added threads are called “picks” and are added in the overall count, which is how some sheets end up having thread counts in the thousands. This is why the idea that high counts equal better quality isn’t really accurate. Consider this: Joanna says most weavers will say the maximum number of threads that can be woven into one square inch of fabric is 500 to 600. Though the number is arguable and, according to Joanna, “depends on the mill you deal with,” it gives you an idea of where the line is between single-ply, unpicked weaves and ones that add threads here and there to bump up the count.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING SHEETS

Joanna lists three things to look for on the label: if it’s Egyptian cotton, where it’s woven and, lastly, the thread count. While thread count is a bit misunderstood, the buzz around Egyptian cotton is true. “The very best cotton in the world is grown in Egypt. So Egyptian cotton will be of a better quality,” Joanna says. She also recommends pima cotton, which is grown in America, “though not quite as exceptional as Egyptian.” When it comes to weaving, however, she swears by the Italians as being the “master weavers of the world” due to their “long tradition of weaving” and use of the best Egyptian cotton. Be sure the label says 100% or pure Egyptian cotton though, otherwise it may only contain a small percentage of the good stuff. As for the thread count, look for a minimum of 200. From there, it’s all about preference!

WHAT TO AVOID WHEN BUYING SHEETS

Joanna’s one key piece of advice is to watch out for extremely low priced, high thread count sheet sets. A complete sheet set with a high thread count for $100 or less is probably not the dream bargain you think it is. As Joanna believes, “you always get what you pay for.” The price tag for bed linens will vary depending on the sheet size and what items you’re buying, such as a duvet cover, sheet sets, or pillowcases. “A superior quality 200 thread count queen set (including flat, fitted, two pillowcases), made of Egyptian cotton and woven in Europe, could retail reasonably for about $150-$250,” says Joanna.

WHAT DO YOU PREFER?

After going through the quality checklist, go with what feels best for you. If you’re looking for a durable linen, Joanna recommends any percale from thread count 200 to 800. Percale is any cotton woven with a 200 thread count or higher and will be more durable than a cotton satin of the same thread count. It’s also less likely to pill than cotton satin because it has a denser weave. Love the feel of a cotton button down shirt? Joanna advises a crisp, dense 200 thread count percale. Prefer a silkier sheet? Go for a 300 to 600 cotton satin. If you want lighter sheets, Joanna says, a 400 thread count sheet can be soft and light, while an 800 percale would be soft and dense. The higher the thread count, the more likely multiple-ply thread is used or picks are added, making the fabric denser and heavier.

Now you know that quality is not just about the number, so don’t let numbers rule your bed! Remember what to look for on the label and be wary of too-low prices for supposedly high quality items. Beyond that, go with what you prefer. Get a good feel of the sheets before buying. Whether you’re unzipping the packaging or lying down on a display bed, make sure the fabric feels good against your skin and soon you’ll be having sweet dreams!

5700S Yarn CountWhat

We have heard of 100s200s yarn count. Have you ever heard of 700s yarn count?

The price of 100% cotton 4pcs bedding sets in the same simple style ranges from tens of yuan to tens of thousands of yuan. They are all made of 100% cotton material. And the product ingredients are all marked with “100% cotton”. Why is there such a big difference in prices?

The main reasons are brands, channels, printing and dyeing, weaving, yarns and other processes and raw materials. There are so many influencing factors. Here I’d like to’talk about raw materials.

Upland cotton is the most widely distributed cotton species in the world and one of the most widely cultivated cotton species in the world. The total output accounts for about 85% of the global cotton production. What we generally call 100% cotton is fine staple cotton.

Long-staple cotton has a long growth periodicity and requires a lot of heat. Under the same heat conditions, the growth periodicity of long-staple cotton is 10-15 days longer than that of upland cotton. Long-staple cotton fibers are slender and lustrous with high strength and high quality. It can be spun in high-count yarns. It is an important raw material for spinning high-end and special cotton textiles. It enjoys “the best of cotton” and “cashmere texture, silk luster” and other reputations.

In addition to Xinjiang long-staple cotton in our country, Egyptian long-staple cotton and American Pima cotton are also long-staple cotton species. The output of long-staple cotton is not high. According to a report issued by the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC), the output of long-staple cotton accounts for only 1.5% of the total global cotton production. How precious they are!

Which long-staple cotton is better? Xinjiang long-staple cotton, Egyptian long-staple cotton or American Pima cotton?

The above table lists 9 factors that affect the quality of long-staple cotton. According to this evaluation, Egyptian cotton has the best overall performance, Xinjiang cotton has an advantage in main body fiber length, and Pima cotton has a high reputation, but it is not as high-quality as expected. The superiority of Xinjiang cotton depends on its unique environmental advantages.

6The Tips Of Fabric For Hotel Bed Linen

Choosing the right fabric really depends on personal preference and the effect you’re looking for in your hotel rooms.

Is Egyptian cotton the best?

Cotton is grown all over the world. High quality cotton yarn is spun up of long staple fibres. This is vital in producing good quality yarn and from this you can produce good quality cotton. Egyptian cotton is made from long staple fibres as is cotton from other countries. The Egyptian cotton producers have spent many years and large amounts of money promoting the “Egyptian Cotton” Brand. This is why it has become synonymous with high quality.

Interestingly, the top five cotton producing countries in the world are China, USA, India, Pakistan and Brazil in that order. China produces approx 25.5 Million Bales per year (6,000tonnes); Egypt in comparison produces just 1 Million Bales. These figures considered it is impossible for there to be so much authentic Egyptian cotton on sale as there is. The actual truth is that most of the cotton based products, for example bed linen, coming out of Egypt are made from imported cotton from other countries.

What benefits are there for using polycotton in bed linen?

Polyester is an oil based product and when woven into yarn it has a far greater degree of elasticity than cotton yarn. This helps to prevent creasing after washing. The polyester yarn helps hold the bed linen in shape and doesn’t shrink. The problem is, it can be quite uncomfortable to sleep under and hot in the summer. The truth is, if a high quality cotton yarn is used and the finish is done properly, 100% Cotton bed linen shouldn’t crease that badly and any creases should fall out after a few hours use.

The difference between combed cotton and pure cotton

Combed cotton is a type of fiber whose shorter fiber is removed in the comber. However, pure cotton is a kind of fabric made from cotton. What’s the difference between them and which one is better?

The difference between combed cotton and pure cotton, first of all, thery are very similar in appearance. The colors are white and look soft . Only in terms of craftsmanship, they have certain differences. The combed cotton will clean out a lot of foreign substances in the process of making the fabric. Compared to pure cotton, combed cotton is smoother and less prone to pilling.

Another difference between combed cotton and pure cotton is that the combed cotton fabric is more breathable and comfortable and the combed cotton shrink less than pure cotton. Relatively speaking, combing cotton is less prone to deformation and more durable. However, the texture of combed cotton is not as good as pure cotton. The texture of cotton is better and the quality is higher.

Combed cotton and pure cotton are healthy fabrics. Both have good hygroscopicity, breathability, warmth, so they are widely used in textiles.

What is Pima Cotton?

We normally use pima cotton to produce our luxurious bed linen.Pima cotton, also called extra long staple (ELS), is a type of cotton grown primarily in Peru, the southwestern United States and Australia. It is considered to be one of the superior blends of cotton and is extremely durable and absorbent. This type of cotton is named after the Pima, a group of American Indians who first cultivated the plant in the U.S., but the cotton’s origins are its cultivation in Peru.

Similar to Egyptian Cotton

This type of cotton bears some similarity to many forms of Egyptian cotton, which is frequently used in towels and sheets. Egyptian cotton has a much more extensive weave than other types of cotton. Towels made from Egyptian cotton are particularly desirable because they are very soft and help absorb water quickly. Growers in the southwestern U.S., where the climate is somewhat similar to that of Egypt, began growing a type of cotton that was a mix of Egyptian and other types of cotton. Pima cotton is a little shorter than Egyptian cotton but still yields a thread that can be woven multiple times into a piece of fabric to create a dense, soft fabric.

Advantages

One of the advantages of pima cotton is that the thickness of the cloth it weaves creates a very durable fabric. Marketers of this cotton claim that their products can last as much as 50 percent longer than fabrics made from other forms of cotton.

The Washed Cotton-the Cloth Or The Cotton

When we talk about washed cottonit is usually introduced as a fabric, because the commonly used material is cotton, and after washing with cotton cloth effect, so we call it washed cotton. In fact, it is a kind of washed cloth.

Washed cloth is a kind of textile developed by the international textile industry in the early 1980s. China has been trial-produced in 1983, mainly for exporting. In the past two years, it has also become popular in the domestic textile circle.

Washed cloth is popular in the international market due to its natural surface , long-lasting simplicity,  soft hand feel, easy to wash and moderate price. The washed cloth is a pleated fabric, which is a kind of crepe fabric. It is a special finishing process and the style of its formation is mainly for catering to the different requirements of consumers for the retro psychological changes of fabrics, as well as the need for comfortable and casual wearing feeling.

7How To Choose The Suitable Bed Sheets?

Talking about bed sheets, there are four things you need to know before investing in your next dreamy set.

Is Thread Count That Important?

Yes and no. Thread count is often used as the barometer of a sheet’s smoothness and durability. However, this measurement—which should refer to the number of threads woven into a square inch of fabric—isn’t always reliable. High thread count is a factor, but the type of cotton can be more significant.

What’s The Best-Quality Cotton?

Top-of-the-line is 100 percent Egyptian cotton. Second best is 100 percent pima cotton, also known by the trademarked name Supima. If a label says simply, “100 percent cotton,” assume that it’s American upland cotton, a rougher, less expensive variety. Egyptian cotton’s long fibers produce sheets that are thin and sumptuous yet extremely strong and long-lasting. (The shorter fibers of upland cotton, by contrast, can poke out of the weave, leading to a coarser, weaker fabric.) Pima cotton is also soft and less likely to pill than upland cotton. You can find a good queen set made of pima for less than $200. If you want the best, you’ll invest about $500 in an Egyptian-cotton set in percale or sateen—both clean, classic weaves.

What’s Better, Percale or Sateen?

Neither. It’s a matter of taste. Percale is a plain, matte weave that has a crisp, cool feel, so it may be sensible for people who tend to get overheated when they sleep. Sateen is slightly heavier and very soft, with a lustrous, smooth finish that’s almost satiny—hence the name. If you’re not sure which you prefer, look for fabric swatches on display for a touch test.

Is There a Cheaper Option For Kids or for a Spare Set?

A cotton-polyester blend, often marketed as “easy care,” is a smart choice, since it withstands frequent washings well. A little poly is all you need—a 90/10 blend is durable, looks crisp right out of the dryer, and is still soft and cozy. But don’t go above 30 percent synthetic: The sheets won’t feel great and could make the sleeper sweat.

8How To Care For Linen Fabric

Linen is a beautiful and durable fabric that is made from fibers of the flax plant. Common fabrics made from linens are tablecloths, napkins, curtains and clothing. For thousands of years—long before any dry cleaners—linens have been around and successfully cared for. While linen fabrics are much stronger and smoother than cotton, certain measures should be taken to care for your linen fabrics to last a long time.

Follow the manufacturer’s directions. Linen fabrics have different dyes, textures and weaves. Therefore, you should always look at the manufacturer’s tag for cleaning, drying and ironing instructions, which are usually located on the reverse side. It is best to always follow these directions before attempting something else, which may be more risky.

Test any cleaning techniques in an inconspicuous spot. Just in case you might damage the linens, test where no one can see, like the underside of the fabric.

Remove stains immediately after they happen. The longer you wait, the more the stain will set into the linen fabric and the harder it will be to clean. There are many different techniques to remove stains for various products. For example for ballpoint pen stains, use hair spray to clean. (See Resources for more ideas.)

Avoid bleach with chlorine. You may be able to use color safe or oxygen-type bleach on linens, but regular chlorine bleach will damage the fabric. Usually, any kind of laundry detergent will work, however you may wish to use a mild variety like Woolite or Dreft.

Wash in a machine that is not fully loaded (the more water the better) and always wash with like colors and in a temperature recommended by the manufacture. Also, put delicate linen items in a pillowcase or a netted bag, often used for undergarments, to protect the linens from any possible snagging. If your water is high in lime content, add a softener to the water.

Do not wring out your linen fabrics and, if you can, allow white linens to hang dry in the sun to help maintain the whiteness of the fabric. Avoid over-drying linen fabrics, which can cause it to lose its softness and become too crisp. This is hard to reverse. You can usually dry on a low setting, but again, follow manufacturer’s directions.

Iron your linen fabrics while they are still damp. This will make the job of ironing a lot easier. Be sure the bottom of your iron is clean and smooth, and free of any mineral deposits. Also, you can try to press damp linens with your hand. You just may not have to iron after all.

9Why the hotel linen products shrink?

1.The raw materials of hotel textile are different, the shrinkage rate is different. In general, fibers that absorb more moisture tend to swell when immersed in water. When the diameter increase, the length will be shortter. So the shrinkage will be increased.

2.Hotel textiles have different densities and shrinkage rates. If the warp and weft density is similar, the warp and weft shrinkage is also close. If the density of warp is large, the warp shrinkage is large, on the contrary, the weft density is greater than the warp density, the weft shrinkage is also large.

3.The Thickness of hotel textile yarn is different, the shrinkage rate is also different. The shrinkage of coarse yarns is large, and the shrinkage of textiles with fine yarns is small.

4.The hotel textile production process is different, the shrinkage rate is also different. Generally speaking, in the weaving and dyeing and finishing processes of hotel textiles, the fibers have to be stretched several times, and the processing time is long. The shrinkage rate of hotel textiles with greater tension is greater, and vice versa.

10Why Hotel Linens Get Yellowing

Reasons:

1. Excessive amount of bleaching agent will cause a chemical reaction with the fluorescent whitening agent in the linens, causing linens yellowing.

2.The drying temperature is too high.

3The ferric ion in the washing water exceeds the standard.

Solutions:

1. Severe yellowing can be solved by using reductant, and can be washed in water after 5 minutes.

2. Take towels as an example, it is easy to cause yellowing if the drying temperature exceeds 85°C. The correct drying temperature should be kept at about 75°C, and it needs to be cooled to 5-10 minutes after drying, and the cooling temperature should be about 50°C.

3. The ferric ion content in the water cannot be more than 0.1 mg/L.

11Tips for Solving Hotel Linens Becoming Graying

Graying and yellowing of hotel linens are the most common phenomenon, and the quality of washing powder, water quality, bleaching agent, and washing process all have an important influence. Why there are these problems? A brief summary is as follows:

    (1) The water is not softened, the iron content in the water is high, so iron rust stains appear, which makes the fabric yellow.

    (2) The temperature is too high during drying, which makes the fabric yellow.

    (3) Chlorine bleaching itself makes the fabric yellow without whitening.

    (4) Excessive softener or neutralizer can easily make the fabric yellow.

    (6) The quality of the fabric itself.

     Solution:

So how to solve the problem? Wash the linens at high temperature (60-70), put only a little amount of washing powder (100 kg of capacity with 300g of washing powder), and then put a little amount (150g) of bleach to wash, so that the towels and bathrobes can be whitened without yellowing.

12How to prolong the lifetime of hotel linens

1. What is the lifetime of the linen?

The linen used in the hotel has a certain life span, so in addition to the normal washing of the cotton hotel linens, the hotel laundry room must also maintain the linens to maximize the service life and reduce the damage rate. If it is used overdue, there will be serious damage to the linens, and the use of the damaged hotel linens will affect the quality of hotel service.

Generally speaking, the washing times of cotton linens are as follows cotton sheets and pillowcases, 130~150 times; polycotton (65% polyester, 35% cotton) , 180~220 times; towels, 100~110 times; tablecloths, napkins, 120~130 times. But that’s according to the standard of world high-star hotels. So circumstances alter cases.

2.How to increase the lifetime of hotel linens?

1Using detergents properly, choosing right time and temperature, understanding the basic characteristics of detergents and how to use them. Try to avoid direct contact with some corrosive chemicals.

2Do a good job of sorting before washing, including the sorting of the linens and the separation of debris.

3Always check the machine, care should be taken to collect and transport thelinend to prevent secondary pollution and man-made damage. The loading should be appropriate (80%~85%), too much or too little will affect the abrasion of the linens.

4The classification of new and old linens should be done. The new and old linens should be treated differently. The strength of  them is different.

Another point directly related to the lifetime of the linens is to avoid “fatigue use”, that is, washing them in the same day will accelerate the shortening of the life of the cloth. It should be at least 24 hours or more, so the life of the linens will be longer.

13Which bedding fabrics are easily to get pilling

What fabrics are good for bedding? Which bedding fabrics are the easiest to get pilling? Fabric pilling, usually found after the use. The fabric has repeated friction, then the fiber fluffs, and finally the pilling occurs. The fiber pilling is related to the following factors:

*Short fibers are easy to get pilling; in the unit length, the short fibers are exposed to the yarn and the surface of the fabric has more fiber ends and poor holding force, so it is easy to get pilling. For example, short fibers include: bamboo fiber, wool, etc.

*The fiber strength is high; the fiber that is rubbed out is not easy to fall off. In this case, there are generally in blends, such as polyester cotton. Mixing two kinds of fibers, one strong and one weak is easy to occur.

*The yarn has low twist, the yarn twist is low, and the mobility of the fiber is increased, so that the fiber is easily taken out during the rubbing process to form a fluffing phenomenon.

*The structure of the fabric:in general, the probability of pilling is high: satin > twill > plain. Mainly because the tighter the fabric, the higher the holding power, the less likely it is to pilling.

The pilling of the bedding fabric does not necessarily mean that the fabric is not good. Some are due to the characteristics of the fabric, and may also be electrostatic pilling with the clothing during use, and sometimes improper washing will also cause the fabric to get pilling. There is still a way to ease it a little.

1. Wash thoroughly according to the washing instructions.

2. When washing the bed, adding a softener will alleviate the problem of pilling.

3. The time for cleaning the bedding should not be too long.

4. Trim the hair ball with a transparent glue or with a hair ball trimmer.
